Newton Chinese Language School is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Founded 50 years ago, NCLS is now the largest and the oldest Chinese school in New England area outside Boston Chinatown.

To celebrate, the school has planned a series of events:

• Newton Community Appreciation Night on 3/14/2009

  This has happened already and was a huge success, with 3/14/2009 being declared by Newton Chinese School Day by Newton Mayor Mr. Cohen. Here is our flyer for the performance.

• In-school Celebrations

  We have planned many activities at school. So far we have organized karaoke talent show, ping-pong competition, and student speech competition.

  Coming up, there will be a ballroom dance festival on 4/26, a display of drawing students' art work in May, and a chess competition coming soon.

• Commemorative Book

  We are designing a commemorative book. The design work is done and it is being printed.

• Celeration Forum and Teaching Seminar on 4/25/2009, cohosted with Confucius Institute of UMass.

  We will have a display window at Newton Free Library to showcase NCLS.

• Grand Finale Show on 5/30/2009

  We are also planning for a grand finale show which will be the peak of our celebration. This will be held on 5/30/2009 at Cary Memorial Hall in Lexington. Here is our flyer for the performance.
